Maplecroft's global map of food security profiles the risk from lack of universal access to basic food staples in 162 countries. The interactive map is based on Maplecroft's Food Security Index (FSI), which provides a quantitative assessment of the availability, stability and access to food supplies in each country, as well as the nutritional outcomes that result from food insecurity. The FSI is comprised of 18 key indicators, which collectively form four sub-indices: first, the current nutritional and health status of the population, and second, the factors which determine the vulnerability of a country to food insecurity - availability, access and stability. These indices provide a multifaceted approach to food security analysis by assessing the range of key elements in country risk.
