Heavy rain since last week has caused landslides and flooding that has so far affected more than 4,000 people in 10 villages and killed at least seven people in North Bungku and Soyo Jaya, Morowali District, in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. As many as 36 people are reported missing. The landslides occurred Sunday, June 22.

The affected areas are still impassable, with bridges in the area damaged and flood waters remaining over roof tops, Church World Service Indonesia reports.

CWS RESPONSE: CWS Indonesia has deployed an emergency assessment team to the affected area. As an initial response, CWS will distribute 400 blankets and 400 hygiene kits and is working closely with other members of the Action by Churches Together (ACT) International network in Indonesia.
