NEW DELHI, Aug 25 (Reuters) - A strong earthquake measuring 6.4 magnitude struck Tibet on Monday, but no immediate loss of life was reported, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) recorded the tremor at 6.3 magnitude, centred near the China-Nepal border at a depth of 21.7 miles (35 km). The quake was felt in the Indian capital New Delhi, where witnesses said buildings swayed.

"The epicentre was in Tibet," a spokesman at the IMD said. "The quake was felt in Nepal and New Delhi," he added. In Nepal, authorities said they were trying to find out whether there was any loss of life.

People ran out of their houses in Nepalgunj, 321 km (200 miles) southwest of the capital Kathmandu, they added. (Reporting by Bappa Majumdar and Gopal Sharma; Editing by Alex Richardson)
