MIRANSHAH, Pakistan, Oct 3 (Reuters) - A U.S. airstrike on a Pakistani village near the Afghan border on Friday killed at least three people, including two women and a child, according to Pakistani intelligence officials in the region. The attack on Datta Khel, 60 km west of Miranshah, the main town in the North Waziristan tribal region, took place at around 5.30 a.m. (1130 GMT), the officials said. North Waziristan is a known hotbed of Taliban and al Qaeda support, but Pakistan has protested over the surge in U.S. airstrikes on its tribal lands in the past month. Aside from the three people killed, around half a dozen were wounded. (Reporting by Haji Mujatba; Editing by Jerry Norton)
